Crystallisation of Foturan® glass–ceramics

چکیده
hotostructurable glass–ceramics are suitable for 3-dimensional microfabrication and, in some instances, can be used as an alternative material o silicon in the microfabrication of micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) devices. Foturan® is a photosensitive lithium–aluminium–silicate lass that can be structured by an exposure to UV light, followed by a thermal treatment and an etching step. In this work, the crystallisation inetics and microstructure evolution of unexposed and UV-exposed Foturan® are investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry, -ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The glass transition temperature Tg, the apparent activation energy of crystallisation Ea and he colour of UV-exposed Foturan® are discussed. It is shown that nucleation and crystallisation of UV-exposed Foturan® can be steered either as function of temperature (non-isothermal) or as a function of time (isothermal). This is essential for the photostructuring and etching of Foturan® egarding the achievable feature sizes of 25 m for MEMS applications. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملEvaluation of the Degree of Crystallisation in Glass-ceramics by Density Measurements
A theoretical procedure has been developed with the aim of obtaining an accurate and rapid estimation of the degree of crystallisation in jarosite glasses by measuring the densities of the parent glass and, after the thermal treatment, of the glass-ceramic. Compositions were prepared by mixing jarosite waste with granite scraps and glass cullet, yielding three dierent glass-batchs, melted at 1...
متن کاملSinter-crystallisation in the diopside–albite system Part I. Formation of induced crystallisation porosity
The sinter-crystallisation was investigated in three model glasses (G1, G2 and G3) belonging to the diopside–albite system and forming between 30 and 60% diopside, respectively. The effect of bulk crystallisation on the sintering was studied by the addition of 0.7 wt.% Cr2O3 as nucleating agent to the G2 glass. The degree of sintering was evaluated by the variation of the apparent density while...

This work presents the results of a study focused on the development of forsterite-nepheline glass-ceramic with the use of rice husk ash (RHA) as a silica source. The glass-ceramics were produced by a sintering process of a glassy frit formulated in the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 base system with the addition of B2O3 and Na2O to facilitate the melting and pouring processes. The crystallisation study was ca...
